Hi there. Thank you for taking time to learn about me and my business, Relate Strategies, LLC.
I’m a seasoned communications strategist who is passionate about connecting the providers of foundational services – like food, biomaterials and energy – with the public.
I didn’t grow up on a farm, but I did grow up the daughter of a millwright in rural Iowa – where we're second in the nation for agriculture production and first for biofuels and wind power generation.
My 20-plus year career has been focused on promoting and protecting businesses in food, agriculture and related industries. I've had the opportunity to work for: the National Cattlemen's Beef Association, DuPont Pioneer, FleishmanHillard, the Iowa Economic Development Authority and the National Pork Board.
My communications journey started with tracking and responding to issues. From activist campaigns and food recalls to factory farming concerns and GMO bans. We. Were. Constantly. Reacting.
There had to be a better way!
I started leading proactive efforts to help those in the food system take control of their narrative by being in favor of something and building relationships with potential advocates. That way, when the inevitable issues occurred, we had built some equity.
I created the first CSR report for the beef industry, the Cattlemen’s Stewardship Review, and introduced opinion leaders to the people and practices behind food production.
I developed training programs to help answer questions about modern agriculture. I redefined common sayings – like pigsty, pigout and hog wild – to get people to rethink pig farming.
I also had the great opportunity to promote working and doing business in my home state as the division administrator for marketing and communication at the Iowa Economic Development Authority.
Those were great opportunities to lead pretty significant and cutting-edge projects for major organizations and brands. But now, I work for myself and could be partnering with you to connect, create and solve.
